Dreams Bound, Time Unbound
Soul Ropes brings together several years of photographs taken during my shibari sessions.
These images do not simply seek to preserve the forms created by the ropes. They attempt to capture what would normally disappear with them: a gaze, tension in the body, surrender, an emotion, the marks left on the skin — fragments of the ephemeral relationship that takes shape between two people.
Through different bodies, different encounters and different ways of tying, the book explores what runs through my shibari practice: trust, sensuality, eroticism, the inner journey, and that particular suspension of time that can emerge during a session.
The title Soul Ropes echoes the Japanese word kokoro — heart, soul, mind. Because beyond the ropes and the forms, what interests me most is what the person reveals of themselves.
With a foreword by Nuit de Tokyo, the book brings together 90 pages of colour and black-and-white photography, accompanied by texts in French, English, German and Japanese.
